I Am Willing; Be Cleansed

“Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” (Mark 1:40-44)

People who suffered from leprosy were treated as outcasts and avoided. Nobody would dare touch them or get too close for fear of being infected. There was no cure for the dreaded disease, which gradually left a person disfigured through loss of fingers, toes, and limbs. Many lepers suffered through years of physical and emotional pain. The isolation from friends and loved ones was just as devastating as the painful sores.

What an expression of love it was for Jesus to reach out and touch this leprous man. Even more astonishing was the display of God’s unlimited power when Jesus healed the man instantly! Can you imagine what that experience was like for the leper? Unclean one moment, and clean the next!

Did you know that YOU can experience the same relief and freedom by coming into contact with the Lord Jesus Christ? Sin, much like leprosy, takes over the whole body and defiles it. When we are living in sin, we are isolated from God, and our souls are lost. But God provided a Way by His grace and through His love that we can have our sins removed and be cleansed in an instant!

What must we do to be cleansed? We must surrender to Jesus! We must obey the gospel! We must be faithful!

“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32)
